How Confluity works.
Understand the system and science behind Confluity.
Confluity is designed to bring clarity to your work. Whether you’re managing a complex project or organising daily tasks, this guide will help you navigate the system.
How Confluity fits together
A single connected flow from everyday work to reusable models.
Work.
Use Confluity to manage your work and make important work repeatable and easier to do with checklists.
Jobs.
Start by identifying the key jobs you need to do. Then identify the simple rules that should guide how you or your team do them.
Models.
For some jobs, Confluity has already brought together simple rules from many experts and turned them into models you can use on your own or with a team through playbooks and tasks.
Want the full system map?
Most people won’t need this to get started. But if you want the deeper picture of how rules, models, jobs, plays, readiness checks, and live project work fit together, open the ontology view.
You don’t have to use everything at once.
Start small. Pick one job or one checklist. The system is designed to scale with your needs, so you can adopt it at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed.
Ready to start?
Jump into the playbook or explore the models to see how it works in practice.

Visit the Help CentreHow Confluity works
Confluity takes patterns from expert practice, turns them into simple rules, and uses models, jobs, plays, and readiness checks to guide real project work.
Starts from expert insight
It begins with patterns seen in strong project practice.
Simplifies into rules
That insight is reduced into a small set of reusable rules.
Guides work in stages
Projects move through jobs, plays, and readiness checks.
From expert knowledge to live project work
This is the clearest way to read the system. Follow the numbers.
-
1
Expert insight
Confluity starts with patterns from expert practice and research.
-
2
Simple rules
Those patterns become simple rules. They become reusable guidance people can apply in their own work.
-
3
Model
When rules are placed in a clear order, they become a model.
-
4
Jobs
A model is split into big parts called jobs.
-
5
Tasks or practices
Inside a job, you get tasks or ongoing practices that guide the work.
-
6
Plays
Plays add extra structure when you want a deeper method or tool.
-
7
Readiness checks
These are pause points. They help you decide if you are ready to move on.
-
8
Project movement
The project moves through the model. Checklists and plans help people act.
One view of the ontology
This map shows the main objects in the system and the links between them.
This view keeps the main emphasis on rules, models, jobs, plays, readiness checks, and project movement. Tasks sit lower down. They usually appear inside plays, checklists, or practical next steps, not at the top of the ontology.
A clear path
The Deliver a Project model shows how a project moves through three jobs. The first two jobs are more sequence-driven. The third job shifts into ongoing delivery practices.
Set the Direction
Set the direction before effort builds around the wrong thing.
- ask why the work exists
- bring in the right people early
- compare options before momentum takes over
- surface risk and weak assumptions
pause, reflect, then move on
Prove It Works
Test the best option before you go big.
- make assumptions visible
- run small experiments
- learn with real users
- continue, adapt, or stop with evidence
check the evidence is strong enough
Make It Happen
Turn evidence into delivery and real use.
- deliver in a controlled way
- keep the right people aligned
- roll out, learn, adapt, repeat
- keep practices going, not just steps
What the core objects mean
These are the terms that matter most when explaining the system to a new user.
Rule / simple rule
A reusable piece of good judgement. It says what tends to help a project succeed.
Core guidance object
Model
A clear sequence of rules for a kind of work. It turns many ideas into one path.
Structure object
Job
A big phase inside a model. Jobs help people see where the project is now.
Phase object
Task or practice
A placed rule or delivery behaviour inside a job. Some jobs use numbered steps. Some use ongoing practices.
Placed guidance
Play
An optional deeper tool. Plays add more method when a user wants more help.
Support object
Readiness check
A short pause point between jobs. It helps people see if they are ready to move on.
Transition object
Checklist
A practical entry point. It helps a user start with one piece of work right now.
Action entry point
Project
The live piece of work moving through the system. This is where the model becomes real.
Work object
A clear way to say it
Confluity takes expert patterns, turns them into simple rules, places those rules into models, and guides projects through jobs, plays, and readiness checks.
